The Leonard family farm has been in the family for 100 years, until the
1970s grazing and arable before Joe Leonard’s father converted it to dairying.
Joe is in a dairy farming partnership with a neighbour. Currently running a
spring calving grass-based production system on 258Ha on three land blocks.
The MP is currently 190Ha running 600 cows stocked at 3.15 Lu/Ha.e,
He was awarded the 2014 Nuffield Ireland Scholarship. his topic was ‘To Investigate
and develop Stress Management Systems in Farming in Ireland’ with specific emphasis
on the education of young farmers and agri-industry personnel
